If you have been following BoOonBlog you know that the last blog was all about damaged skin barrier and how to deal with it. And one of the creams suggested to gain back the strength of your skin barrier on that blog was this cream.
I was given a tube of Dr G’s Barrier Activator Cream from one of my distributors and it was just on time when my skin was acting strange. When I saw the name, I thought it’s interesting and when I saw the ingredients I thought I have to try it ASAP. Unfortunately, there is almost no review of this cream you can find on the net, which is sad. Just for everyone to know, I am given many samples of different products, some are new, some are very popular, but I pick carefully what I test according to my skin’s need. That way, I can see the result better, and decide if it is worth recommending to you or not.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients:
Water, Squalane,Simmondsia Chinesnis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Neopentyl Glycol Dieheptanoate, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol,Cycolopentasiloxane, Betaine, Ceramide NP, Silica, Stearic Acid, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1,2 Hexadediol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Cholesterol, Dimethicone, Carbomer, Carpylyl Gylcol, Arginine, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Arachidyl Alcohol, Baty Alcohol, Olea Europaea (olive) Oil Unsaponifiables, Behenyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Triticum Vulgare (wheat) Germ Oil Unsaponifiables, Glycine Soya (soyabean) Oil Unsaponifiables, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Lecithin, Pollen Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Juniperus Virginiana Oil, Laureth -7 Lavandula Angustifolia (lavender) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) Peel Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil
- According to Dr. G, this cream contains a patented Filagrin Activator called Filagrinol. A mixture of Pollen Extract, Soybean Oil, Olive Oil, Wheat Germ Oil to heal damaged skin barrier and bring back a balanced moisture level. Filagrin is actually a type of protein which when the amount is decreased causes skin sensitivity (like dryness of the skin, itchiness, red spots, tightness, burning sensations upon skincare application). Signs I got myself!
- Formulated with plant derived Ceramide 10,000ppm!!
The cream comes in a tube, like those you buy from the pharmacy. It’s not the fanciest packaging, but it didn’t bother me at all, since I was not for the packaging here but for the result. It’s hygienic that is for sure, and thrifty because you only squeeze what you need. And travel safe too because it is a tube and has tight cap.
When I opened it, I was expecting a gel texture because it is says for oily sensitive skin, but it came with a thicker cream… at least on the first sight. Once applied though, it’s actually not so thick and heavy. It had the right consistency of a light a cream considering that this is formulated to fight damaged skin, which means it needed to be emollient.
As I mentioned at beginning of this blog, my skin was acting strange. Strange to the fact that some parts of my face started getting itchy, sometimes feeling tight, although I had moisturized a lot and used the same old routine. I also got mild burning sensation when actives are applied which was never been a case. A thick bump near my nose due to forceful squeezing of blackheads, had appeared and some other small bumps making that area around my nose a little rough. These were the major symptoms, which I knew I had tipped off the moisture level of my skin barrier.
Being very patient this time, I consistently used the cream everyday in the morning as the last stage of my skincare. It combined pretty well with my other skincare products. You know, the usual layering in K Beauty. You just need a very small amount and pat it all over the face. It absorbed quite well without being greasy. This depends of course of the layering preferences you make. I layered it with Son & Park Beauty Water, Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence, (plus sometimes with Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum).
Having an oily and at the same time irritated skin, I was expecting this cream, to control the oil production of my skin, but still gives me an extra moisture I need. I’m glad it did that! The greatest sign I know a cream or a product is working great for me as a moisturizer, is when my face do not show any pulling and tightening the whole day long until 9pm, then it is a winner! And this product is indeed a winner!
More than a month after using, I can attest I gained back the balance of my skin barrier. The stubborn bumps as a result of squeezing blackhead shrunk like a miracle and those tiny bumps were gone! I can’t believe it myself, but hey it worked. My skin was damaged indeed and it needed to heal through the help of this cream.
But I say, the success of this cream is also through the fact, that I adjusted my skincare routine. My BHA and AHA’s from COSRX are reduced to once or twice a week usage and the Son & Park Beauty Water had helped cleared my pores, which I use every morning with a cotton pad after cleansing to remove excess oil on my face, making me no longer has the need to squeeze blackhead too often. And I found a cleanser that is heaven sent for everyone that has problem with pores! Which you see on the site soon!
Conclusion:
Dr G Barrier Activator Cream – Oily Sensitive Skin - is an emollient cream dedicated to bring back the moisture level of the skin but at the same time non greasy with appropriate amount that matches right with other toners, light essences and serums for day time use. Use thicker amount in the evening with your thicker serums and you’ll see how plump and moisture rich you skin is in the morning!
Thanks for reading! Hope to see you the nex time again!
